Resize images to a width and height in pixels
Pixcon resizes images to the width and height you enter, from 1 to 4096 px per value. You can keep the proportions of each image or stretch it to exactly the size you enter.
"Convert to:" is set to "Keep Original Extension", so JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF files keep their format. To resize and convert in one step, choose one of these formats there. For HEIC or HEIF photos, choose JPG or PNG.
How to resize images with Pixcon
- Enter the new size"Resize" is already selected. Type a value from 1 to 4096 px in "Width:", in "Height:" or in both. An empty field shows "Auto".
- Decide about the proportionsLeave "Maintain Aspect Ratio" on to keep the shape of the image. To get exactly the width and height you entered, turn it off and fill in both fields.
- Add the imagesPick the images with "Select files", or drag them into the upload area. Every image in that upload gets the size from step 1.
- Save the resized imagesDownload each image separately, or choose "Download all" to save the finished images as one ZIP archive.
What happens with each combination of settings
- Only "Width:" or only "Height:": the other side is calculated from the proportions of the image.
- Both values with "Maintain Aspect Ratio" on: the image fits inside that width and height, so one side can be smaller.
- Both values with "Maintain Aspect Ratio" off: the image gets exactly that size and may look stretched or squeezed.
- ICO and PDF output: "Resize" is not offered for these formats.
Tips for resizing images
- For a website, enter the width at which the page shows the image. Choose WebP in "Convert to:" to resize and convert in one step. Files that are already WebP are then not accepted, so resize those with "Keep Original Extension".
- "Optimize images" is also on, so the resized files are compressed as well. Turn it off to save the images at a higher quality.
- Pixcon does not resize ICO files when the format is kept. To change the size of an icon, choose PNG in "Convert to:" and use "Resize".
Questions about resizing images
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep "Maintain Aspect Ratio" on, or fill in only one of the two fields. Pixcon then keeps the proportions of the image and fits it into the size you entered.
How do I resize an image to an exact size like 1080 × 1080 pixels?
Enter 1080 in "Width:" and in "Height:" and turn off "Maintain Aspect Ratio". An image with other proportions then looks stretched, so use the crop tool if the image must fill 1080 × 1080 without distortion.
What is the largest size I can resize to?
Each value in "Width:" and "Height:" can be up to 4096 px. When you enter only one value, the calculated side can be larger than 4096 px, up to the limit of 20,000 px per side.
Can I make a small image bigger?
Yes. Enter a width or height larger than the image, and Pixcon scales it up. Enlarging adds no new detail, so a small image does not become sharper.
Can I resize an image by percentage?
No, Pixcon works with pixels only. To make an image half as wide, enter half of its current width in "Width:" and leave "Height:" empty.
